CNN host who compared Trump to Nazis says Melania should 'take back' 'dangerous accusation' that 'mainstream media' is 'fueling' political violence

After Melania Trump's interview with Fox and Friends this past week, a CNN host who has previously compared Donald Trump to a Nazi said it was "dangerous" for the former first lady to say that the "mainstream media" is "fueling a toxic atmosphere and giving power" to people that "want to do harm to [Trump]" after there have been two assassination attempts on the GOP nominee.

CNN host Christiane Amanpour posted about the interview, "Mrs Trump is mistaken, political violence is not the fault of the 'mainstream media' and I wish she would take back this false and dangerous accusation."

Amanpour herself has accused Donald Trump of engaging in "Nazi talk," per a report from The Hill, as well as equating what she called Trump's "modern-day assault" on "knowledge, history and truth" to the Kristallnacht, which was where Nazis torched synagogues, Jewish homes, as well as murdered close to 100 Jews in 1938.

In full context, Melania Trump did not directly blame the "mainstream media" for the violence that took place and instead said that it contributed to a "toxic atmosphere" and gave "power" to people who wanted to harm her husband.

"Is it really shocking that all this egregious violence goes against my husband, especially that we hear the leaders from the opposition party and mainstream media branding him as a threat to democracy, calling him vile names?"

Melania added, "They're only fueling a toxic atmosphere and giving power, all of these people that they (sic) want to do harm to him. This needs to stop. This needs to stop. The country needs to unite."

The comments from the former first lady's interview with Fox and Friends come on the heels of two different assassination attempts on the GOP nominee. In July, Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to take several shots at Donald Trump from around 130 yards away on top of a rooftop during a Butler, Pennsylvania rally. Crooks shot Trump in the ear with the spray of bullets as well as killed Corey Comperatore, and critically injured David Dutch and James Copenhaver.

Then, earlier this month, Ryan Routh was reportedly able to lay wait for around 12 hours until he got within 300-500 yards from the GOP nominee with an AK-47-style firearm, targeting the president in another assassination attempt.
