It wasn’t enough for the media to mercilessly go after Donald Trump, his family, and anyone who supported him.
From White House staffers to personal lawyers, anyone who worked with or stuck up for Trump was slandered by the left.
That includes constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz, who defended Trump numerous times over the years, including at his first impeachment trial.
CNN went after Dershowitz with a despicable hit piece that falsely stated Dershowitz claimed Trump could break the law.
Dershowitz filed a $300 million lawsuit against CNN and now a judge has ruled the suit can proceed to depositions.
Attorneys for CNN filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit in November but a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida did not agree with their argument and said Dershowitz can proceed.
The lawsuit claims that CNN unfairly edited comments from Dershowitz about whether Trump could have been impeached if he committed an illegal act that he believed was in the public interest.
Dershowitz says in the lawsuit that CNN repeated that clip over and over in order to make him appear as if he “had lost his mind.”
Following the airing of that clip over and over again, the hosts, together with their panel guests, including CNN employees and paid commentators, exploded into a one-sided and false narrative that Professor Dershowitz believes and argued that as long as the President believes his reelection is in the public interest, that he could do anything at all – including illegal acts – and be immune from impeachment.
The very notion of that was preposterous and foolish on its face, and that was the point: to falsely paint Professor Dershowitz as a constitutional scholar and intellectual who had lost his mind.
CNN’s attorneys argued that the lawsuit should be dismissed based on the fair reporting privilege of the press.
Dershowitz appeared on Newsmax to explain that the fair reporting privilege didn’t extend to CNN’s actions exactly because the network unfairly misrepresented what he said.
“They took out the words ‘lawful and illegal’ in order, deliberately, to convey the impression that I thought the president could engage in illegal and unlawful conduct and still not be impeached, exactly the opposite of what I said,” said Dershowitz.

Dershowitz said he was looking forward to “deposing the commentators and heads of CNN and of the truth coming out.”
Earlier this year, Dershowitz dropped a bomb about House Democrats’ second attempt to impeach Donald Trump.
During an interview on Newsmax, Dershowitz said House managers arguing at the Senate impeachment trial “really blew it” and harmed their own case.
“Today the Democrats really blew it. Maybe now they’ll regain their strength but up to now, today was a complete waste of time,” Dershowitz told co-hosts Bob Sellers and Heather Childers.
Dershowitz said Democrats did not display a basic rule taught in law schools.
“The first thing you teach a good lawyer is, ‘You have to know when to sit down and when to shut up.’ The Democrats just didn’t know when to sit down and shut up,” Dershowitz said. “They would have been much better advised if they had just started today by saying, ‘Let’s get to the First Amendment issue. Let’s anticipate.”
“I’m not sure whether they get a rebuttal. If they get rebuttal then they really shouldn’t even raise the First Amendment issue. They should wait until it’s raised by the Trump defense and then rebut it. If they don’t get rebuttal, if their arguments are over today and then the defense gets the last word, then they have to anticipate it,” he added.
