ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons issued a statement on the June 6 assaults against federal law enforcement officers in Los Angeles.

ABC News: The Trump administration is calling in the California National Guard in response to protests in Los Angeles over immigration operations that have resulted in some clashes between demonstrators and authorities.

President Donald Trump signed a memorandum "deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness" in California as demonstrations opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations continue in the state, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement Saturday.

Earlier, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the federal government was moving to "take over the California National Guard," calling the move "purposefully inflammatory" and saying it will "only escalate tensions."

Newsom said local California authorities don't need the help.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said California will sue the Trump administration on Monday over its deployment of the National Guard to quell Los Angeles protests against federal immigration raids.

In an interview Sunday evening on MSNBC, Newsom said the lawsuit would challenge Trump’s federalizing of the California National Guard without the state’s consent, a move with little precedent in U.S. history.

“Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight. He’s exacerbated the conditions. He’s, you know, lit the proverbial match. He’s putting fuel on this fire, ever since he announced he was taking over the National Guard — an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act,” Newsom said on MSNBC.

“And we’re going to test that theory with a lawsuit tomorrow,” he added..

Asked to elaborate on the lawsuit, Newsom said that under Trump’s executive order, “it specifically notes — and under what the [Department of Defense] did — is they had to coordinate with the governor of the state. They never coordinated with the governor of the state,” he said.

Newsom noted that he has deployed the National Guard before to respond to various emergencies.

“We have no problem, working collaboratively in a mutual aid system with local law enforcement. But there’s a protocol, there’s a process. He didn’t care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied,” he said.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum fanned the flames of the ongoing riots in Los Angeles, calling Mexican migrants living in the US 'heroes' while blasting the immigration policies of President Trump.

Violent clashes broke out in LA after dozens of undocumented migrants were arrested Friday in raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

'We disagree with this approach to the migration phenomenon,' Sheinbaum said during a press conference Sunday afternoon in San Andrés Cholula, Puebla.

'It's not about raids or violence but rather working on a comprehensive reform that takes into account the Mexicans on the other side of the border,' she added. 'That is our position, always a call for peace, to not exacerbate any form of violent protest.'

Sheinbaum said that 35 Mexican nationals were arrested by ICE agents as part of Trump's deportation efforts.

'Mexicans living in the United States are good, honest men and women who left to seek a better life for themselves and to support their families,' she said at her press conference.

'They are not criminals.'

The president also lauded the contributions of Mexicans in the Los Angeles area.

President Donald Trump authorized on Monday the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to help respond to protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids, according to U.S. officials.

The order would put them on active duty. One official warned, however, that the order was just signed and it could take a day or two to get troops moving.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss troop movements.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called the move reckless and “disrespectful to our troops” in a post on the social platform X.

“This isn’t about public safety. It’s about stroking a dangerous President’s ego,” Newsom said.

The Pentagon also deployed about 700 Marines to Los Angeles on Monday to help National Guard members respond to protests over immigration raids, officials said, as California sued Trump over his use of the Guard troops and demonstrators took to the city’s streets for a fourth day.

As parts of Los Angeles burn under the fury of riots, there are burning questions in Washington about who instigated the protests against immigration enforcement operations and whether any funding is coming from foreign sources.

FBI Director Kash Patel told Just the News the bureau is investigating the money trail behind those organizing and promoting the demonstrations spreading across the country.

Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., said he fears some of the protesters are being paid, and it is essential for Congress to follow that money trail.

Former FBI Executive Assistant Director Chris Piehota told Just the News that the FBI likely began looking immediately into how these violent protests were sparked.

One group involved with the protests last week that eventually evolved into riots over the weekend is the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) — a Marxist group with reported ties to the Chinese Communist Party, part of a larger network of protest and organizing groups which have connections to the Singham Network. That group has also helped organize the anti-Israel protests recently ravaging college campuses.

Brevard County, Florida, Sheriff Wayne Ivey warned any left-wing rioters on Thursday that they will end up “graveyard dead” if they assault any law enforcement officers.

“No Kings” protests are set to take place across the U.S. on Saturday to oppose President Donald Trump, causing worry among law enforcement about potential violence. Ahead of the protests, Ivey stated that Brevard County will not tolerate any such behavior that hurts law enforcement or causes any destruction.

“If you spit on us, you are going to the hospital and then to jail. If you hit one of us, you’re going to the hospital and jail and likely will get bitten by one of our big, beautiful dogs we have here. If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at. Because we will kill you, graveyard dead,” Ivey continued. “We’re not going to play.”

The Trump administration has sued the city of Los Angeles over its immigration policies, claiming that the city's law discriminates against federal law enforcement by treating them differently from other law enforcement authorities.

The lawsuit was filed in the Central District of California, and notes up top that Donald Trump "campaigned and won the presidential election on a platform of deporting the millions of illegal immigrants the previous administration permitted, through its open borders policy, to enter the country unlawfully."

The suit claims that Los Angeles' law and policies obstruct the enforcement of immigration laws.
