Zelensky says he is ready to step down as Ukraine’s president after the war ends and does not intend to lead in peacetime.
In an interview on “The Axios Show,” he vowed to push for parliamentary elections if a ceasefire is reached, despite challenges posed by Ukraine’s constitution and security concerns under martial law.
Zelensky, whose term would have ended in May 2024 if not for the war, believes elections are feasible during a ceasefire to allow a new leader with a fresh mandate to pursue long-term peace.
He also warned Russian officials to end the war or prepare for Ukrainian strikes on targets like energy infrastructure, claiming U.S. support for using long-range weapons if provided.
