During a hot-mic moment at Beijing’s Tiananmen Gate, Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed living to 150 with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The unscripted chat, captured on a live feed before a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s WWII defeat, was flagged by social media users watching China’s military parade.

The brief, patchy audio caught Xi saying in Mandarin, “these days” and “70 years old,” with a translator relaying in Russian: “Earlier, people rarely lived to 70, but now at 70, you’re still a child.” Putin responded, gesturing, but his words were unclear. A translator then relayed in Mandarin: “With biotechnology, organ transplants can make people live younger, even achieve immortality.” Another translator repeated this in Korean. Xi concluded, “Predictions are, this century, there’s a chance of living to 150,” before the camera cut away.

The exchange occurred minutes before Xi’s speech commemorating China’s WWII victory, followed by a parade showcasing new weapons, with translators trailing the leaders—Xi flanked by Putin on his right and Kim on his left.
