Google has committed to a $25 billion investment over the next two years to expand its data center and AI infrastructure.
It's the largest U.S. electric grid, known as the PJM Interconnection, which spans 13 states across the mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and South.
Included is a $3 billion deal with Brookfield Asset Management to modernize two hydropower facilities in Pennsylvania, securing up to 3,000 megawatts of carbon-free energy.
This agreement, part of a broader framework to purchase hydroelectric power, represents the world's largest corporate clean-energy purchase for hydroelectricity.
The initiative addresses the growing energy demands of AI and data centers, particularly in the PJM region, which includes the world's largest data center market in northern Virginia.
The announcement coincides with an AI summit in Pittsburgh, where industry leaders and government officials, including President Donald Trump, are discussing AI and energy investments totaling over $90 billion.
