Meta Launches Superintelligence Division to Lead AI Innovation

Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta Platforms’ new Superintelligence division, Meta Superintelligence Labs, to advance AI development. Alexandr Wang, former Scale CEO, will serve as chief AI officer, while Nat Friedman, former GitHub CEO, will lead AI product development, per an internal memo reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The division integrates Meta’s FAIR research team, Llama model developers, and AI product teams, alongside a new lab for next-generation models.

Meta poached 11 AI experts from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, plus three additional OpenAI researchers from its Zurich office. “As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight,” Zuckerberg wrote.
