The Supreme Court has ruled that lower courts cannot impose nationwide blocks on Trump’s birthright citizenship order

The Supreme Court has ruled that lower courts cannot impose nationwide blocks on Trump’s birthright citizenship order, saying injunctions must be limited to the individual plaintiffs in each case.

Justice Barrett criticized Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent for endorsing what she called an overly expansive view of judicial authority, writing that Jackson’s position “would make even the most ardent defender of judicial supremacy blush.”

Justices Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh each filed separate concurring opinions, while Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson dissented.
