Trump to hold first meeting with CEO of AI chipmaker Nvidia

President Donald Trump is expected to meet Friday with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, marking the first meeting between the president and the leader of a chip company at the center of the artificial intelligence gold rush.

Nvidia’s stock tumbled Monday in response to the sudden popularity of a Chinese artificial intelligence app called DeepSeek, which has sparked concerns about the competitiveness of U.S. technology companies.

Planning for the meeting began before the spike in anxiety about DeepSeek, according to a senior administration official and a person familiar with the discussions, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private plans.

While other executives, including Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, have visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate and attended the inauguration, Huang has never before met the president, according to one of the people. Nvidia’s stock has soared since Trump’s first term in office because the advanced chips it makes for gaming are highly in demand to build AI systems.
