DOJ Fines Musk’s X (Twitter) for Fighting Unconstitutional Trump Warrant.
Court documents show Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) tried to fight a DOJ search warrant filed by the foreign-dwelling, Obama-linked “special prosecutor” Jack Smith, who was seeking access to former President Donald Trump’s infamous social media account. X’s primary objection was to an unusual gag order attached to the warrant, which would have prevented the social media firm notifying Trump that the DOJ now had access to his account, including private, direct messages. Lawyers for X argued that the order attached to the warrant violated the First Amendment. When the social media company delayed handing over the account access to the DOJ by an additional three days, a federal judge held the company in contempt and fined them $350,000. After the fine, X complied with the warrant and gag order. On January 8, 2021, President Donald Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter (now X) following the events of January 6th. Twitter, then under the leadership of its former-CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey, caved to left-wing demands that the President be suspended for inciting violence, despite the fact that Trump had authored several tweets calling for peaceful and non-violent protests. The next day, Trump made a speech condemning the reports of “violence, lawlessness, and mayhem” that had occurred around the Capitol. When Elon Musk took over Twitter on October 27, 2022 he indicated he would explore reinstating Trump’s Twitter account. The former President’s account was reinstated just under a month later on November 19, 2022 after Musk had asked Twitter users their opinion via a Twitter poll – 51.8 percent of participants supported reinstating the account that Jack Smith and Joe Biden’s DOJ now have access to.
