Dame Sarah Mullally named as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury

Bericht door noumoe »

Dame Sarah Mullally named as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, making her the first woman to lead the Church of England following 105 male predecessors.

Dame Sarah Mullally has been appointed as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury. Previously the Bishop of London, she was recognized as a dame in 2005 for her leadership as chief nursing officer for England. Her appointment was approved by the King and follows a three-part meeting of the Crown Nominations Commission.

Mullally has been a strong advocate for women priests and has opposed the assisted dying Bill. She supports safeguarding reforms and called the Church’s vote for same-sex blessings a “moment of hope.”

This position was vacant for nearly a year after Bishop Welby resigned amid allegations of abuse.
