President Trump has declared Antifa a terrorist organization

Bericht door noumoe »

President Trump has declared Antifa a terrorist organization, describing it as a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster” on Truth Social.

The process to make this designation official remains unclear, as does its full impact on the group.

Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” is a decentralized, leaderless movement, according to the Anti-Defamation League, and gained prominence during the 2020 BLM protests, riots, and police clashes.

Federal law defines domestic terrorism as acts threatening life to coerce civilians or influence government policy, but it’s not a chargeable offense on its own. Congress has explored new domestic terrorism laws but faces challenges due to constitutional protections, including First Amendment rights to speech and association, and Fourth Amendment limits on searches.

President Trump also suggested targeting Antifa’s financial supporters and using RICO laws—previously key in dismantling the mafia—to pursue the group, tasking Pam Bondi with exploring “criminal RICO” cases. However, applying RICO to Antifa’s loose structure may prove difficult.
