The Trump administration has directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to indefinitely postpone a public meeting of its vaccine advisory panel, a key forum for the nation’s discussion of information about vaccine safety and effectiveness.

The decision came Thursday from officials at the Department of Health and Human Services, CDC’s parent agency, led by anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who has long criticized the panel and the CDC.

Andrew Nixon, an HHS spokesperson, said the meeting scheduled for Feb. 26 to Feb. 28 will not take place, and would be “postponed to accommodate public comment in advance of the meeting.” No date has been set for a rescheduled meeting.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention pulled back a public health campaign promoting the flu vaccine as cases of the flu have surged in recent weeks.

The now-defunct “Wild to Mild” flu vaccination campaign encouraged people to get the flu vaccine, mostly aiming to communicate that one could still catch the flu after vaccination but that vaccination can lessen symptoms and the chance of getting severely ill.
